Butter the bottom and sides of a cast iron enameled casserole dish. Peel potatoes and slice to about an 1/8th-inch thick. Layer bottom of pan with potatoes, then sprinkle with a few tablespoons of flour, salt, pepper, parmesan cheese, and dot with thin slices of butter. Repeat for another layer of potatoes until you have reached the desired amount of potatoes. End with a layer of potatoes without putting seasonings on. Pour milk or cream into dish until it reaches about ½ inch bellow top of potatoes. Spread parmesan cheese on top and bake 1 ½ hours at 375˚ F.
